Can honey help your allergies?
Allergens are local and are a big reason why local honey is the best way to fight allergies. The apitherapy theory behind this allergy help is that the pollen of the plant your allergic to can be slowly built up into your system building up a resistance. So, I suppose it depends on what you’re allergic to and whether the local honey you have includes the pollen from the plant you’re most reacting to.
This is not a definitive science, but I’ll usually stick with the honey of the season when I’m fighting symptoms rather than whatever sounds best. For example, if it’s springtime, I eat springtime honey with springtime pollen inside.
Apitherapy has a lot of “wives tale” type applications and this is one that happens to work for me. I can tell a noticeable difference in my runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes symptoms when I’m including local honey in my diet. For me, adding a teaspoon to tablespoon (depending on my symptoms and sweet tooth) to some coffee or tea is the absolute best way to fight my allergies without loads of medication and kleenexes.
So, it can’t hurt to try it, and hopefully it works as well for you as it does for me!
